What are the differences between high-strength track bolts and Hi-Low Thread Screws?

There are many differences between high-strength track bolts and Hi-Low Thread Screws, as follows:

Definition and category
High-strength track bolts: bolt-type fasteners, with clear industry standards, suitable for black track bolts, nuts and their assemblies with fine threads of M10×1~M39×3 and performance grade 12.9.
Hi-Low Thread Screws: generally refers to high-low thread self-tapping screws, which belong to the self-tapping screw category. Directly tap into the connected parts through its own threads, without pre-processing nuts or threaded holes.

Structural features
High-strength track bolts: composed of a head and a screw. The head is usually in the shape of a hexagonal head, which is easy to tighten with tools. The screw has an external thread and is used in conjunction with a nut.
Hi-Low Thread Screws: usually have various head shapes, such as round head, countersunk head, semi-countersunk head, etc. Its thread has high and low teeth. High teeth are used for rapid penetration of materials, while low teeth are used to provide better fastening force and stability.

Materials and performance
High-strength track bolts: Generally, medium-carbon alloy structural steel, such as ML20MnTiB and other materials, are used. After heat treatment, they reach higher strength and hardness, have good tensile and shear resistance, and can withstand greater external forces and impact forces.
Hi-Low Thread Screws: Materials are usually carbon steel, stainless steel, etc. Its strength and hardness vary according to the use scenario and requirements. Generally, while ensuring penetration performance, it must also have a certain fastening force and anti-loosening ability.

Application scenarios
High-strength track bolts: Mainly used for track connections of engineering machinery, such as excavators, bulldozers, etc., and are also used in some mechanical structures that require higher connection strength and reliability.
Hi-Low Thread Screws: Commonly used for the connection of materials such as plastics, nylon, and thin metal plates, such as electronic equipment housing assembly, furniture manufacturing, and automotive interior parts installation.

Manufacturing process
High-strength track bolts: The manufacturing process is complex, including hot-rolled wire rods, spheroidizing annealing, shelling and descaling, drawing, cold forging, thread processing, heat treatment and surface treatment, etc., with strict requirements on dimensional accuracy and performance consistency.
Hi-Low Thread Screws: The production process includes coils, annealing, pickling, wire drawing, heading, thread rolling, heat treatment, electroplating, etc. The thread rolling process needs to form high and low thread threads, which has special requirements for molds and processing accuracy.
